walstib, ykwim?

What a long strange trip indeed:
RI -> FL -> RI -> MA -> RI -> CA -> TN -> CA -> ?
Horror stories from the past, to current trials and tribulations; from my takes on the environment, baseball, overpopulation, hippies, jam bands, politics, neurological disorders, sex, religion (yikes!), big money, and pop culture, to future speculations and musings on life after employment; with liberal amounts of sarcasm and dry humour on the side.

We're all gonna die!

Remarkable advances in healthcare and medicine post WWII allowed our parents and grandparents to live much longer than our great-grandparents. Those of us into the back 40 of our lives have been exposed to a SHIT ton more of toxic products in and from our foods, clothing, building materials, cleaning products, food containers, pesticides, coal, fossil fuel exhaust fumes, exhaust fumes on our crops, Monsanto in our foods, bovine flatulence, atomic, nuclear, and mother of all bombs, chemicals, plastics, styrofoam, poisons, smog, airline exhaust, oil and soap from our cars that end up in our aquatic food chain, Fukushima fallout, and millions of other sources.

That some of us make it to our 90s is only a testament to the good genes in their family lineages.

As for the increase in life expectancies we've been seeing since the 1940s? Well, I've got news for you, oh blind ones. We've pissed that away already. We're already dropping like flies.

"Most notably, the overall death rate for Americans increased because mortality from heart disease and stroke increased after declining for years. Deaths were also up from Alzheimer's disease, respiratory disease, kidney disease and diabetes. More Americans also died from unintentional injuries and suicide. In all, the decline was driven by increases in deaths from eight of the top 10 leading causes of death in the U.S."
